"Open-er"

I was having a conversation the other day with a buddy of mine where my babbling led me to say "opener".

"Opener" - not in the sense of someone opening something, but more like
"Opener" - making something more open.

So now, one might say "stupid ass aubrey, 'opener' isn't a word"

I knew it wasn't, but really, I just felt like saying it. I don't mean to say that whenever I speak with bad grammar, I do it on purpose. But for this particular instance I felt like saying "opener" because I knew my buddy listening to me would still understand it.

Why can't "opener" be a word in my sense? Anyone can understand its meaning within the context of its conversation. When some word like "wider" was first spoken, it wasn't an official word before that, but people (individuals like you and me) got to make that word "real."

What about "conversating"? (I actually said that word by accident when babbling to my friend)

I know it should be "conversing," but then I thought, why the eff can't "conversating" be a word?

If in a "conversation," you "converse," why doesn't the same hold true for "apprecing" when you want to show "appreciation"? (insert your own example, if mine's too wack - but hopefully you get my point)

People get too caught up with rules and the "usual" and forget that these things at one point were made up too, just like my "opener." I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that what you mean to say, even if you don't say it correctly, you'll know in your head exactly what you're trying to tell me - and I'll be pretty good at getting your point.

So for the readers that read this far, play on words - it's okay with me. (my blog just indicated to me that "okay" was spelled incorrectly lol)

I'll get what you're saying, and hopefully you get my point too. If not, that's fine by me- I'm not saying you guys have closed minds..

.. I'm just trying to make mine opener.

p.s. I'm getting my new wheel set this weekend, so hopefully i'll get my ish fixed by next week ;)
